Write the squared distance from (x; x²) to P and minimize it instead of the distance. Compare critical points and choose the positive x-coordinate of the nearest point.
Find derivative zeros and compare signs on both sides. A squared factor need not change the sign. An extremum requires a change from decreasing to increasing or vice versa.
Apply the product and chain rules. Factor out the positive exponential, examine the signs of the remaining factors and include the boundary t = 0.
Find the second derivative and its zero. Check that its sign changes there. The requested coordinate is x, not the function value.
The height is x and each base side loses two cuts. Write the volume and feasible interval, differentiate, discard the degenerate box and verify the maximum.
Find derivative zeros inside the interval. Evaluate the function there and at both endpoints, then compare. The question asks for a function value, not x.

Six dynamic advanced-course tasks on cubics, inflection, stationary points and three different optimization models.
Areas under and between curves, volumes of revolution and quantities recovered from rates.
This test develops geometric reasoning and calculations with prisms and pyramids. Students find volume, lateral and total surface area, altitude and edges and analyse diagonal cross-sections.
Skew lines, common perpendiculars, angles and the three-perpendiculars theorem.
Quotient and chain rules, logarithms, exponentials, radicals, trigonometric and second derivatives.
