Reconstruct the complete cone using similar axial-section triangles and subtract the smaller cone volume. Alternatively use V = πh(R² + Rr + r²) / 3, including the mixed term.
Square the side lengths to obtain base areas. Use V = h(S₁ + √(S₁S₂) + S₂) / 3, or reconstruct the complete and removed pyramids and subtract their volumes.
The section and base squares are similar. Compare their distances from the apex, not from the base. The area ratio is the square of the side-length ratio.
Use the height and radius difference to find the slant height. The lateral area is π(R + r)l. Height and slant height are different.
The section is a rectangle, but its width is not the diameter because the plane misses the axis. Find half the base-circle chord using Pythagoras, double it and multiply by the height.
Join the centre to a point on the section circle and drop the perpendicular to the cutting plane. Use the right triangle to find the squared section radius.

Six dynamic advanced-course tasks on frustums, similarity and cross-section geometry.
This test uses the first derivative to analyse a function. Tasks include finding critical points, intervals of increase and decrease, local extrema and absolute maximum or minimum values.
Extrema, inflection, derivative signs and optimization of geometric and exponential models.
This test introduces the derivative as a rate of change and applies the basic rules of differentiation. Tasks cover derivatives of constant, power, linear and quadratic functions.
Binomial probability, complementary events, model assumptions and classical and geometric probability.
