Count the counters and divide by 2. Each child receives half of the whole set.
Look at the operation sign. For +, add the numbers; for −, subtract the second number from the first.
It can help to split the second number into tens and ones. For example, 27 − 13 = 27 − 10 − 3 = 14. When adding, you can also add the tens first and then the ones.
The number immediately before is one smaller: subtract 1. The number immediately after is one greater: add 1.
The correct answer lists three consecutive numbers: before, given, after. For example, 299, 300, 301.
Find the specified column and row, then read the number at their intersection.
Find the missing subtrahend by subtracting the remainder from the starting number. Check by adding it to the remainder: you should get the starting number.
Add the ones. If there are at least ten, exchange ten ones for one ten. Include this extra ten when adding the tens.
One ten equals 10 ones. To exchange ones for whole tens, group them in tens: divide the number of ones by 10. To exchange tens for ones, multiply the number of tens by 10. The representation changes, but the total amount stays the same.
Expanded form writes a number as a sum of hundreds, tens and ones.
For example, 583 = 500 + 80 + 3. Use the value of each digit, rather than simply adding 5 + 8 + 3. A digit 0 contributes 0 in its place.
Count only cards with the specified letter. This count is its frequency.
Find the missing factor by dividing the product by the known factor.
For example, for 3 × ? = 12, calculate 12 ÷ 3 = 4. Check that multiplying by your answer gives the product shown.
First check whether the operation is addition or multiplication.
You can check with small numbers, such as 2 and 3.
One centimetre equals 10 millimetres: 1 cm = 10 mm.
On a ruler, the space between two neighbouring centimetre marks is divided into ten small one-millimetre spaces.

This complete Grade 2 mathematics test helps students review the main school topics in one mixed set of tasks. Questions are selected from different tests for this grade, so each attempt can be different.
Choose a 15, 30, 45 or 60 minute test. A longer duration creates a larger task set covering calculation, word problems, geometry and other topics studied in the grade.
A full grade test is useful for independent checking, revision before a class assessment or mathematics exam preparation. Work at your own pace, review the result and try again: dynamic questions help students learn methods instead of memorising previous answers.
Dynamic tasks on place value, comparing and ordering three-digit numbers, sequences and rounding to tens and hundreds.
