To subtract fractions with different denominators, first find a common denominator.

1. Find the least common multiple of the two denominators.
2. Rewrite both fractions with that common denominator.
3. Subtract the numerators and keep the common denominator.
4. Simplify the resulting fraction. If it is improper, it may be written as a mixed number.

Formula: ^a⁄_b − ^c⁄_d = ^{ad − bc}⁄_bd.

The median is the middle value of an ordered data set.

1. Arrange all numbers from smallest to largest.
2. When the number of values is odd, select the number exactly in the middle.

If there were an even number of values, calculate the arithmetic mean of the two middle values.

Interest is calculated from the current balance each year, so in the second year it is also earned on the first year interest.

1. Convert the annual percentage into a multiplier: 1 + percentage ÷ 100.
2. Multiply the initial deposit by this multiplier once for the first year.
3. Multiply the new balance by the same multiplier again for the second year.

Formula: final amount = initial deposit × (1 + annual percentage ÷ 100)².

The mode is the value that occurs most often in a data set.

1. Count how many times each number appears.
2. Find the number with the greatest frequency.

The data does not have to be sorted. The mode is not necessarily the largest number or the mean.

To find the stated part of a number, multiply the number by the fraction or decimal multiplier given in the question.

Result = {a} · {b}.

If {a} is given as a percentage, first convert it to a fraction: {a}% = {a} / 100.
