Question 10out of 10
To subtract fractions with different denominators, first find a common denominator.
- Find the least common multiple of the two denominators.
- Rewrite both fractions with that common denominator.
- Subtract the numerators and keep the common denominator.
- Simplify the resulting fraction. If it is improper, it may be written as a mixed number.

- The greatest common divisor of numbers ___ and ___ is?
- The least common multiple of numbers ___ and ___ is?
Operations with common fractions
For addition or subtraction, find a common denominator first. For multiplication, multiply numerators and denominators; for division, multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction. Simplify fractions before and after calculating when possible.
Checking
Estimate whether the result should be less than or greater than 1. Convert mixed numbers to improper fractions before multiplication or division and present the final result in its most appropriate simplified form.
