Sample questions

  1. A triangle side is ___ cm. Find the length of the parallel midline.
  2. A triangle midline is ___ cm. Find the parallel side length.
  3. A trapezoid has bases ___ cm and ___ cm. Find its midline.
  4. One base of a trapezoid is ___ cm and its midline is ___ cm. Find the other base.
  5. The vertex angle of an isosceles triangle is ___°. Find each base angle.

Midlines of triangles and trapezoids

A triangle midline joins the midpoints of two sides, is parallel to the third side and has half its length. A trapezoid midline joins the midpoints of its legs, is parallel to the bases and has length m = (a + b)/2.

Related triangle properties

An isosceles triangle has equal base angles, while every angle of an equilateral triangle is 60°. In a right triangle, the leg opposite 30° is half the hypotenuse. Distinguish a midline from a median in a diagram.
